Hockey – MVP

September 20th, 2015

Lauren was nominated the Most Valuable Player today in Hockey in her team. There was only 1 award for the whole league, and someone else got it in the end, but her nomination was pretty impressive! Lauren was very chuffed!

First game of hockey

May 2nd, 2015

Lauren played her first game of hockey today and did a brilliant job! She’s never played before and we only mucked around a bit with the hockey stick together with Evan, but she has been listening well in the training.

Lauren ended up getting 2 of the 3 goals for the team and landed the inaugural player of the day! So proud of her! The team lost the game but it was still pretty impressive to watch the kids!

Playing a part in the Annie school play

May 2nd, 2015

Lauren is playing a part in the Annie school play. She tried out for the Miss Hannigan role, but didn’t get it, so instead will play one of the orphans. Looking forward to seeing the play!

Netball game

March 26th, 2013

Lauren was selected for the ANZ Future Ferns competition to lead the netball team out onto the court! It was at the Mystics/Vixens game on the 25th of March.

We turned up at Trusts Stadium in Henderson and met up with the co-ordinator there. We decided to make a family event of it so we all went.

Lauren met up with the co-ordinator there and the other girl who won the competition. They were guided by the co-ordinator as to what was going to happen.

Lauren then met the netball captains and held the flags out while the teams were introduced. Lauren got an introduction from the announcer, saying she was 8 years old and wanted to be a fashion designer for Netball players!

Out on the court, the Mystics goalshoot chatted with Lauren and put her arm around her. Very sweet!

We got it all on video and some photos. They took an “official” shot of Lauren with the captains and we also got a certificate! So very cool!

We all had a great time at the game – even Evan. The Mystics lost unfortunately, but it was a great game! Thanks to ANZ for doing the competition and supporting the NZ netball!

Swim meet

November 18th, 2012

The kids had a swim meet on the weekend and did awesome!

Lauren came first for backstroke and breaststroke, and second for freestyle in the heats.

Her time wasn’t fast enough to get her into any finals though, so that was the end of her races.

She did have a great time with the pom-poms cheering on the team. She’s a natural born cheerleader!

Book award

November 5th, 2012

Lauren won a book award for her book that she wrote over the school holidays titled “The Adventures of Lauren and her family” about some magical flying dolphins we get for Christmas.

She was one of 4 in Shelly Park who won the award and was given an autographed book “Supper Finn” by Leonie Agnew.

Here are the first few pages of the book:

Lauren had a homework activity on the weekend where she was meant to look after an egg as if it were here baby.

Lauren worked hard on taking good care of the egg. She called it Eggy and she made a little pouch out of cloth for it to sit in. She put it in the doggy purse she has.

On Monday morning just before jumping in the car to go to school, she dropped Eggy from the kitchen benchtop!

Lauren was really distraught that she dropped the egg – she was crying.

Later that day she made a tombstone for Eggy and used the epitaph:
Eggy epitaph
“Here lies Eggy. If only I cared more for her”

It is a copy of the Calvin and Hobbes comic!

Dunlop

October 23rd, 2012

Evan’s class is raising bunnies and when asked what type of bunnies they were, Lauren said “Dunlop”. She really meant lop-eared bunnies. :)
