Lauren just got her 12th tooth! The first molars (teeth 9 – 12) usually come in at 12-18 months, so she’s a bit ahead. Evan was also ahead of schedule when it came to teeth.

Kissing and blowing kisses

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Lauren’s getting very good at kissing and blowing kisses. She hasn’t quite got the puckering, but she likes to come over to us and put her lips against us. She can also blow kisses now, which is really cute watching her put her hand to her mouth and then blow us the kiss.

Nappies

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Lauren’s so clever. We roll the nappie out on the ground and she shifts her bum over to it! We can then close the nappy around her waist. She’s so clever.

Lauren can sort-of blow kisses now. She’ll put her hand up to her mouth and pretend to kiss. Very cute.

Walking

Lauren is doing very well with walking now, and can easily walk around the room, from one side to the other.

Kissing

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Lauren is getting into kissing now. She likes to come up to us with an open mouth and push it against us, as if she’s kissing. She’ll figure it out soon enough. It’s quite cute, because we can say ‘kiss, kiss’ and she’ll do that to us.

Lauren’s birthday

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

Lauren turned one today, and we went into the city to Kelly Tarlton’s, which is an aquarium. Lauren loved it! She had a great time watching the fish and sting rays. There was an arctic tour, where we got to see the penguins, which was great fun. Afterward we went for fish and chips. They gave us a kiddie game called ‘Fishing game’ where you had to catch the fish with a hook and rod, which Evan really liked.

Afterwards we walked around the beach area and played in the playground. Evan had a great time!

We celebrated Lauren’s first birthday today, despite it actually being tomorrow. We planned a party with all girls, but a few boys turned up anyways. Gatecrashers! :)

The party went over very well and Lauren loved being the centre of attention. She played well with all the kids and enjoyed all the food. She mingled well with all her Aunties and playmates. Lauren also received lots of presents, many of which Evan loves playing with! Their favourite toy seems to be a china tea set, which both of them played very well with. Lauren also got a jewelry box with a music turning horse figurine inside, which she really likes. She also got lots of clothes, shoes and books. We had 12 kiddie and around 10 adults.

The party was a butterfly theme, and Nicole baked a pink butterfly cake! It was yummy!

We hung paper butterflies from the ceiling, and filled balloon. We even had butterfly wings for Lauren and Nicole. Mumsy sent a ‘Happy Birthday’ banner.

Zahra came to the party too, which was great! She’s a lovely lady and is very loving to the kids. She’s had lots of practice – she’s got 8 of her own! Zahra is Nicole’s Afghani student. Nicole’s teaching her english. One of her sons was on a ‘famous’ boat en route to Australia, which was sinking and was picked up by a Norwegian boat called the Tampa. The Australians didn’t want the refugees, and New Zealand graciously offer to take most of them. Her son then brought the rest of the family here. They’re really nice people.
