Fun weekend

We had a great weekend! On Friday night I came home right after work and the three of us watched City Lights. That was on Zen’s request – he wanted to know more about Charlie Chaplin. We laughed our heads off! What a great way to spend a Friday night.

Saturday was a busy day – in the morning we did a ton of cleaning, in the afternoon Zen and I went to the music shop to buy guitar strings, then to the library to get Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens (another of his requests) at the central library (my first time there to get books – very nice indeed). Then we went to see Pacific Rim, the movie (good!!), then we went to see my friend Farid Long play three sets at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. It was also the afternoon of the National Day Parade rehearsals, so jets and helicopters were flying by – and at the end of Farid’s set, they lit the night on fire, it was awesome!!!!! Whew! My drummer Val was there, rock ‘n’ roll!!

Zen bought these battleships with his own money. He likes building model boats. I think he did a great job.

Pacific Rim – Zen wanted to see Pacific Rim, so we found an opportunity and off we went. I saw the trailers and I wasn’t so hopeful, but I also couldn’t deny my kid the opportunity to see a big screen movie on a big screen, so off we went.

I was pleasantly surprised – it has some pretty good plot development, some nice character development, and some cool action scenes. Lots of destruction, of course, and very little humour (Ron Perlman is in it, of course, and he does a great job).

The characters are quite macho, and the girl Mako is a bit flaky, but it was definitely worth making a special trip. And Zen agrees – it was better than Transformers. Let’s check out Pacific Rim 2!!!
