Zen’s new fish

A few weeks ago Zen suddenly said that he wanted to get some new fish for the aquarium, which he had received as a birthday present on his third birthday, but has been in disuse since we moved from Signature Park last August. He wanted clownfish, which was probably inspired by watching Finding Nemo. This is all totally understandable, since clownfish are totally adorable.

But they aren’t easy to come by in Singapore. We went to one shop in Clementi where we’ve seen clownfish before one Sunday, but they were out. I called my friend Clarence, who knows a lot about aquariums since he runs a small business that deals with fish set-ups, and he said that the Clementi shop is one of only two shops in Singapore where we’d have a good chance of getting any. Yipes! When we moved to Singapore in 2003, there were fish shops all over the place, now there are hardly any.

So on Friday we got a call from the Clementi shop that they had new fish come in, so Naoko and Zen went and had a look. There was one clownfish left, so they bought it, along with six other marine fish. I came home from work on Friday and we set it up, now we have a handsome set as a centrepiece in our home. Great!
