We went to Maraetai beach today, which was very nice. We were up pretty early (our little man woke up at 6:30) so we were at the beach by 10am or so. There were few people around, so we had our pick of spots.

Lauren slept in the car (she hadn’t had a sleep yet today) and Evan and I cruised around and played in the sand. Then we had some food and I got out the kite from Aaron and Raveena (a frog kite with cool streamers) and flew that for a bit. Then Evan and I decided to go for a swim. The water was cool and murky and the bottom wasn’t very nice, but it was good to go in. Evan kept tasting the water – I guess he likes the saltiness of it. At one stage, I think he bent down and drank some of it. Yuck!

They have a peer out at Maraetai and Evan and I explored it for a bit. He almost slipped on the wet wood leading to the water, but luckily I had his hand. We then went about looking for barbeques, which by then were starting to come out of the woodwork. Evan still is maniacal for barbeques. Usually the first things he says when he wakes in the morning is “Turn barbeque on?”.

We left at around 1pm with quite a bit of sun on us and pleasant memories of the beach.
