Lost front tooth

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Evan lost his front tooth the other day. It had been loose for a few days before, but it finally came out. We had hoped it would stay intact until his school photos on the Monday, so we’re pleased it came out on Friday.

Evan and his friends like to play a game where they grab each others’ forearms and then spin around. Evan was playing with Timo who is a year older and Evan took a tumble. Evan claims that his face hit the ground and thus his tooth came out, but more than likely is that he fell down, his teeth garred somehow and then the tooth came out.

Apparently there was a bit of blood and Evan cried a fair amount. We had his teeth checked out by the dentist to make sure the tooth came out “naturally” and they said everything was fine and that there weren’t any broken bits or anything.

Kids get their “6-year-teeth” somewhere around 6 years of age. There’s another boy in Evan’s class who has lost a tooth, but the others still have their teeth.

Last night the tooth fairy came to our house and gave Evan 210 yen. That’s enough for 2 toys at the 100 yen-shop (with tax 105 yen).

In Japan, when children loose teeth, they throw the bottom teeth on top of the house, and the top teeth under the house. This means that the teeth will grow straight.

We had Joanne, Erica and Taro over tonight and Erica has lost both of her top teeth. In fact, her bottom 2 teeth have also come out and the new ones are already pretty well in place. She’s about 6 months older than Evan. So the kids were rather toothless tonight.

New tooth

Evan is now losing his first tooth! His front left top tooth is loose and will probably fall out pretty soon. He’s very excited about it and he even told me not to “kiss him too hard.” I guess these are his 6 year old teeth, although he’s still only 5. We’re pretty sure he didn’t bang his teeth or anything to cause the tooth to be loose. Evan’s friend, Andreas has already lost a lower tooth. Pretty bad timing actually, because he has his school pictures this Monday! :)

Relaxing song

Evan and Nicole were listening to a song when Evan said:

This is actually a relaxing song. Rest your head, but don’t look at me.

Don’t like school

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Evan said to Nicole tonight:

“I don’t like school, but if I have to go, I have to go.”

I watched Evan play soccer today at 4pm and I must say he’s really improved. He was the only one to score some goals in the practice and has a very good soccer style about him. His shots are pretty accurate and he’s got good ball control. Plus he really enjoys it! We caught on video one of his goals, but it’s a bit distant and cut short (Nicole’s editing…).

Robot Kingdom

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Evan and I went to Robot Kingdom today which was fun. Lauren had school today, while Evan and I had the day off, so we took the train into Akihabara and searched for the legendary Robot Kingdom. We found it after a bit of trying and they had quite a few robots, but I imagined there would be stacks of them! Evan liked a few of them and we settled on a kit for a digger-like toy with a control to move around and open and close the grippers. He was really happy with it and when we went home he didn’t want to do anything but put the digger together! Funny. It’s still not quite finished (quite a task for Daddy) but it shouldn’t take too much longer.

Evan still has lots of questions for us, like:

What do ants eat? What eats ants?

We try to answer his questions, but sometimes he says silly things like “Can we eat the sky?”.
