On the plane home from Singapore, Evan chose a pack of cards from the “toy” selection from the stewardess. I told him he shouldn’t pick the cards because they’re for grown ups, so he chose the little magnet drawing thing and then started to cry. He really wanted the cards despite it being for grown-ups. Anyways, the stewardess was really sweet and came back and gave him the cards that he wanted.

Anyways when we got home, we started to play some cards and Evan is really good! He knew the cards already (maybe he’d used them in kindy or something) and Nicole taught him “King’s corners” where he has to count down and he did really well. We’d never practiced counting down before, but he caught on very well.

So now Evan can play a few games like “Go fish”, “King’s corners” and “Mummy please” or something like that. What a clever kid.

Evan also got a chess/checkers/backgammon game from a friend for a birthday (I think) and we’ve been playing that recently. He’s very good at backgammon and not so good at chess, but he knows all the names of the pieces and how they move, although he’s still working on the “plan your attack” and the consequences of a poorly-placed move. Nevertheless, I give him lots of praise and he’s doing very well. He’s a clever kid!

Evan’s first sleep-over

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Evan had his first sleep over when Andreas came over on Friday. Jani was climbing Mt. Fuji and Anne had some things to do in Tokyo, so they all came over. Evan and Andreas slept in Evan’s room and that gave Anne a bit of a break because apparently at home he usually wanders over to their room once in the night. Anyways, the kids had a great time and had a fairly good sleep-in the next morning.
