Best of 3 games

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Evan really loves playing Uno. We’ll usually play it in the evenings, and Nicole and the kids play together too. He’ll often say “Best of 3 games” or something like that. I guess I must have said it, when I was losing and wanted to catch up. He must not really understand it though, because sometimes he’ll say “best of 2 games” or something, which doesn’t make sense.

Evan was being really naughty today and Nicole got very angry with him and then he said:

“From now, I’ll do what you want me to do. But Mummy, I can’t eat all the things on my plate. I can only eat the rice, chips and french fries.”

Evan got the Uno card game from Grandma and he loves it! He’s really good at it and can hold the cards upright really well. Actually, one of the first times we played with Lauren, she won the first two games! She’s really clever at it, but Evan has a passion for it. He still doesn’t really understand the premise of winning and if he loses, he’ll say something like that was fun – let’s play again. If he wins, he just laughs and asks to play again!

Evan started a new school this week. He’s gone to the Yokohama International School Early Learning Centre (YIS ELC) which has a good reputation and lots of expats send their kids to. He was a bit reluctant at first, and even cried a bit on the first day when Nicole left him, but he’s settled in well now and is really enjoying himself. On the first day, he wouldn’t tell us what he did that day, but today we couldn’t get him to stop. It turns out there’s a train set inside and whenever he gets there, he goes straight to the train set. He’s really starting to get interested in trains. He’ll ask for the Thomas videos whenever he can get it, nagging us in the morning to watch a show.

His new teacher is Mrs. Ishida and is really good with kids. She’s retiring this year, so she’ll be missed when she leaves.

Nicole was reading books to Evan when she came across a book from Uncle Dell.

Nicole: “This one’s from Uncle Dell. Poor Uncle Dell – he’s in heaven.”

Evan: “I want to send him something.”

Nicole: “Like what?”

Evan: “Like a book, or a whistle, or a stick!”

Piece of quiet

When Nicole asked Evan about how his school was today, he said:

“I just want some piece of quiet”
