I hate vegetables

Monday, October 31st, 2005

There’s always a battle to get Evan to eat his veges. Mummy was trying to get him to eat his last bean before desert and he said

“I’m full-up Mummy”

so I said

“So you’re too full-up for desert!”

and he said

“My tummy is full-up with vegetables, but not with desert!”

Troublemaker

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Evan loves to get Lauren into trouble. He knows he’s not supposed to touch anything, but gets a good giggle when Lauren tries to. He’ll try to take Mummy’s hand off of Lauren, so that he can show her all the things she isn’t supposed to play with, encouraging her to get in trouble and not him.

Making pancakes

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Lauren and Evan were rolling around on the floor with the old baby comforter. Evan says:

“Lauren, I’m going to roll you up like a pancake and pour maple-syrup on you.”

Pre-school

Friday, October 28th, 2005

We’ve finally chosen a pre-school for Evan. It’s an international preschool called Yokohama Union Church preschool. They’ve got a website here and he starts on Monday and will go for 3 days a week! It’s from 9:00am to 2pm on those days and should give him a social outlet. They’ve agreed to put him into the 4years+ level, which will challenge him more.

When Evan is 4, he’ll go to the Yokohama International School, which is more expensive and has a highly recommended curriculum.

We’d like to put Lauren into some sort of day-care for the social outlet too. It would be good to put her into a Japanese kindy (Hoikuen), but we’d need to speak Japanese. We’re still sorting that out. That way, she would be exposed to Japanese and would probably learn it quickly.

Budding musician

Friday, October 28th, 2005

We bought an toy electrical guitar for Evan in NZ, and gave it to him recently. He loves it. It’s electronic, so it plays tunes when you strum the strings. It’s very loud and you can hear it all over the house.

He’s made up a few songs already, which always makes us laugh. Some of the song titles are:

– King song
– Peter seat

and our favourite:

– Twinkle, fire fire

He usually makes up lyrics as well, such as:

“The rain comes down, down, down on the ground, ground, ground.”

Gardening

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Evan loves going out and do “gardening”. He keeps bugging us to go out and do gardening, but Mummy’s a bit reluctant because of the monster spiders that live in Japan!

He’s got his own rake and gardening gloves and he’s happy to potter in the garden and pick up leaves, and of course, cut the grass.

We plan on planting some new flowers in the front of the house, where the existing plants look more like weeds than garden plants.

Baking

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Evan and Mummy are back into baking again, despite not finding all the ingredients here. We made some yummy honey muffins. Evan still loves anything related to the kitchen and is very interested in the gas stove (spark, flame etc.).

Bike kisses

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Now that Evan’s bike has arrived and Mummy has a bike seat on her new bike for Lauren, we have started cycling places.

Evan yelled for me to stop today because he wanted give Lauren a kiss. When I asked him what the kiss was for, he replied:

“Because it makes me happy.”

lawnmower

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Evan re-discovered his lawnmower today. We unpacked it and he got right to work, mowing the little bit of lawn that we have.

He gave me a full description of how he was doing it. He kept asking: “Does it look pretty yet?”

He said his lawnmower was very loud and he needed to have “ear-puffers” on.

Strong

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Evan and Mummy were moving some boxes around and Mummy says to Evan:

“Careful Evan, this one is really heavy.”

and he says:

“That’s ok, I’m strong.”
