Salty sea

Friday, December 31st, 2004

We went to the beach today for the first time this season. Evan went into the water and was very interested in drinking the water. I suppose he liked the salty taste of the water. On the way home, we asked him if he liked the water because it tasted like salt and he said he did.

When we got home, Auntie Fay from next door invited us over because she had a few pressies for the kids. Evan got a book and Lauren got a blue-haired clown.

We told Fay about Evan drinking the water and we asked him what it tasted like and he said “pepper”!

No mid-day sleep

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

Evan had another day without a mid-day sleep. He managed quite well, but was out like a light at around 8pm. Normally he putters about his room until at least 9pm.

Evan got into the spirit of Christmas this year by ripping into the presents under the tree. When Nicole came down in the morning, he ran up to her and said “Santa came – brought pressies” and took her to the tree where all the presents were under. Very cute.

His favourite present was probably the train track, or the remote control car. Both quite inexpensive and probably not nearly as expensive as the easle Nicole broke even before Evan saw it.

Thanks to M&D for the money, and to Grandma for all the lovely books and fun stuff! Thanks to PMZ for the cool Incredibles outfits and the hand-written story-book! Lovely!

18.2 kg

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004

Evan’s now a whopping 18.2 kg! That’s 3 stone!

Evan definately is afraid of birds. We were at Michael and Diana’s house for Oliver’s birthday party and Evan freaked out a couple of times when their budgerigar flew about the cage outside. He’d make a distant walk around the birdcage if he had to, and when I held him and tried to get him closer to the bird, he freaked out. It may have been because he was tired, but he really didn’t like it.

Evan’s starting to ask “why” on things – even dumb things like: “Evan – eat your cucumber”, “why?”

Saturday, December 4th, 2004

Evan did awesome again today in swimming. He surprised me completely, by managing to swim with only the floatation backpack on! He was kicking really hard, and digging with his hands. He made me very proud. Some of the others in the group clapped after that – he’s so amazing. The swim teacher gave him a little kiss for doing so well, and she said he really needs to go into Swim Tots 1, which is really geared to 3 year olds, but he should be able to go in early. He’s so great!

No mid-day sleep

Saturday, December 4th, 2004

Evan had another first today – he didn’t have any mid-day sleep. Normally he has a 1-2 hour sleep in the afternoon, but since we went to the childrens’ Christmas party today, and then off to Raveena’s baby shower, Evan didn’t get any sleep. Lauren slept in the car going to the different events, so she got her normal sleep. Evan was pretty tired going to bed tonight and he’s asleep much earlier than normal. He did really well though, holding out throughout the day.

I love

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

This was a recent conversation with Evan:

Evan: I love Lauren
Mum: What else do you love?
Evan: I love barbeque
Mum: What else do you love?
Evan: I love Aaron’s barbeque

(we were expecting Mummy, or Daddy, or Oma or Opa or Grandma)

Dog food

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

I wonder where Evan learns these words? We asked Evan if he likes his chicken at dinner, and he held up a piece and said “like dog food!” Where does he get these things?
