Hockey – Most improved player

September 20th, 2015

Evan won 2 awards tonight at Hockey – both for most improved player. First was from the team, where he was one of 3 winners from the team. The 2nd was from the HPHC league, where he was awarded the overall most improved player award from all teams! Very cool!

Coaches award

April 17th, 2015

Evan received the coaches award this year in Cricket, primarily because of him breaking his arm, but also the coach said Evan listened well to what he was teaching him.

Broken arm

April 4th, 2015

Evan broke his arm today playing cricket! He was fielding and the other team hit was was looking to be a boundary shot. He lunged at the ball, stopping the boundary, but landed funny on his forearm. He was in quite a bit of pain, but I told him just to walk it off. When it didn’t seem to be getting any better, I took him to A&E, got the x-ray done and sure enough he broke his radius and ulna! A buckle fracture, which I guess is when the bone buckles under pressure.

7 weeks in a cast! Nice! :(

So much for him walking it off. :)

Last game of the season in cricket

April 6th, 2014

Evan played the last game of the season in cricket last weekend. They had only lost 1 game in the season and were feeling all very confident in it! Unfortunately they lost by 6 runs. Evan was pretty devastated. Oh well, there’s always next year!

Restored blog

April 6th, 2014

Well I have restored the blog, and things look to have gone ok. There are missing images in the blog – not because the migration didn’t go well, but because Evan asked me to delete his pictures off of google images – seems people were searching on him and finding old pictures of him which he didn’t like. So had to remove those pictures. :(

Hockey player of the day

May 25th, 2013

Evan did an awesome job on his second game of hockey, scoring 2 of the 3 goals for the team! He did very well taking the ball forward and finally driving in 2 goals!

For that, he won player of the day!

First hockey game

May 19th, 2013

Evan played his first hockey game yesterday and he did really well. We lost the game by 6-2, but Evan and Fraser both scored goals! Very well done!

I have started a site with pictures of the kids. It can be found here:

Cricket Player of the Year!

April 7th, 2013

Evan won Player of the Year for the cricket team! He’s pretty happy about it. His batting average was the highest in the team. Kishan scored more runs than Evan, but played 2 more games and had a lower average. Evan really enjoyed his cricket season, so will probably go back to cricket next year.

Evan’s 11th birthday

March 27th, 2013

Evan had his birthday yesterday and had a really great day. He had 6 of his friends over for a sleepover. We started out at our place with food etc and then I took the boys to go-karting in East Tamaki. They have an indoor race course with 2 levels. The kids had a great time. Some pictures:

I took a video of the event, so can’t really post it here.

The kids did awesome in the go-karting. Connah came from behind to win the races. The final standings were:
1. Team 3 – Connah – best laptime: 31s
2. Team 6 – Evan – best laptime: 31.2s
3. Team 7 – Ethan – best laptime: 30.9s
4. Team 4 – Donnovan – best laptime: 37s
5. Team 9&1 – Ryan – best laptime: 45s

Unfortunately Connor was too short to be able to go. We’ll arrange something separate for Connor for some other time.

We headed back home and the kids had food, played on the trampoline and we had a small rugby game.

They boys then had a sleep-over. They all slept downstairs in the living room and I went down at 3am and they were still up! I think some kids didn’t go to bed at all that night! :(

Overall, Evan had a grand time with his mates!

The next day I took Evan to the cricket. Black caps vs England. The barmy army was out in full force that day – New Zealand had a commanding lead in the test series and somehow England managed to score a tie! Anyways, the day was beautiful out and we had a great time there.

Cricket lunch

March 9th, 2013

Raj and I shouted the team to McDonalds. No real reason other than we hadn’t done it before. I’d hoped we would win the game, but we played pretty lousy really. Nevertheless, the kids had fun and enjoyed the meal!
